Edit 9/26/13 : A year later the machine has badly aged so much for the high quality. The LED indicating power on has long stopped working and the lettering around the buttons worn off - they were printed on fake metal rings made of paper.On the plus side with the optional non pressurized filter and an optional screen (more $$) and a fine enough grind I regularly get good espresso.

I've had this machine for a few weeks now. The Ascaso uno SE has the looks and the feel of a high quality, more expensive machine and I think it offers very good value for the money. However to brew great coffee with it is a fussy proposition for a couple of reasons:
A - the temperature needs looking after or the espresso will be cold. The first cup in the morning is a throw away - I just run it once without coffee and even then I always heat it a little more ( a few seconds) manually before...
